Hi, I am Wiisemis…..

I am very friendly, bright, charming, compassionate and energetic young Indigenous woman.

I love taking pictures and making handmade crafts. Down below you can read my story and see some of my favourite art pieces.

PHOTOGRAPHY

When I was 6 years old I remembered dreaming of being a professional photographer, fashion designer and a singer!

When I was 7 years old. I had met a real professional Photographer. She had a huge camera and I fell in love with photography instantly. She let me hang out with her for the whole week and she showed me how to use her camera. When I was 15, I had saved up enough money to get a camera for myself. I took thousands of pictures in those first couple days. Then, I researched for the next couple years learning different ways to capture amazing pictures. Still learning new things about photography all the time…..

CROCHETING & KNITTING

In early 2019, I learned how to Crochet & Knit. Instantly falling in love with how fun and creative it was. I began making my own patterns and quickly learning how to make blankets, hats and scarfs. It really helped me during the pandemic to help me cope with all the stress. I also love how I can multitask, (watching tv or talking to someone) while enjoying one of my new favorite passions.

BEADING & SEWING

When I was younger, I went to a lot of pow wows and socials. I always loved and admired everyone's beautiful beadwork and all of the bright colorful patterns that they made on their regalias. When I got old enough I started getting into beadwork. I started by asking my mother and other family members to help me learn some beadwork skills. I know enough to start making my own earrings and medallions. I still have lots of learning to do and I will enjoy making new creations with my beading skill.. Right now I am learning how to make ribbon skirts.
