Elder Wendy Phillips

Elder Wendy Phillips belongs to the 7th Fire and is a member of the Bald Eagle Clan. She is of the Potawatomi Nation (Keepers of Fire), and Jamandomac Nation (People with Excellent Memories); which is known today as the Ojibwa Nation and she is a proud member of Wasauksing First Nation.  

Her Anishinaabe name translates to (One Who Helps), and her family translates to (One Who Stands Alone). 

Spiritual Duties

A Spiritual Leader, Traditional Healer, Seer, Wisdom Keeper, Carrier of the 8th Fire Prophecies, and the Ancient Thunderbird Calendar. As a Ceremonial Leader she carries many teachings and cultural responsibilities as a conductor of:  Pipe, Sweat lodge; Full Moon, Water, Sunrise, Doctoring, Rites of Passage; Adoption, Celebration of life; Naming Ceremony; Funerals, and Weddings; Vision Quest Ceremonies; Feast for the Ancestors.

She is proud of her family and Elders who have made great sacrifices to ensure the Indigenous Knowledge and ceremonies we have today. Wendy’s children have been raised with their traditional beliefs and ceremonies. She values her family, her Nation, her Cultural and Spirituality Beliefs and Ceremonies given to her from her ancestors.

Work & Academia

With her lifetime of experience, Wendy can provide a diverse perspective within the Indigenous non-profit and for-profit sectors, Strategic Leadership, Indigenous Social Innovation; Cultural-based implementation, Project & Policy Development & Management when implementing Indigenous approaches and frameworks.

A proud graduate from York University with a Master’s in Anishinaabe Traditional Governance and Sustainability from the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change Studies. She is a graduate with a Minor in Business Administration and Honors in Indigenous Studies at Trent University. She is an Alumni of Fleming College with a Diploma in Career and Work Counseling. She also has a Coaching Certificate from George Brown College.

Wendy was awarded the Community Medal from Scarborough/Guildwood from M.P Honorable John McKay and she was also a recipient of the Remarkable Woman Award.
